HISTORY
Basketball was created in 1891 by a professor of the Springfield university, James Smith. It came like an answer of the necessity to create some sport activity during winter. James Smith thought about an old game called “duck on a rock”, that it was about of trying to get an object above a rock by throwing a rock. Smith ask for boxes but he only got some baskets and he put it on the railings. Basketball became an Olympic sport in 1936 and the girls in 1976. The three-point line became to the NBA in the season of 1979-80.
RULES
About rules, basketball started with 13 rules, but time passed and now it has 24 official rules. The most five important rules are: 1- the teams suppose to have 12-15 players which only 5 of them can play at the court. 2- If a player stays at the service line 5 seconds the ball will be given to the other team. 3- The player can only touch the ball with the hands. 4- If a player gives 5 fouls, he will not play the rest of the game, in the NBA the player can give 6 fouls. 5- If a player receives the ball and he lift both feet, the referee will call “running”.
NBA and FIBA are basketball associations that share the same rules but with some changes. Some changes are: 1-The difference of time, NBA has 4 quarters of 12 min each and a half-time of 5 min, and FIBA is 4 quarters of 10 min each and a half-time of 5 min. 2- The three-point line, NBA line is 7.24mt from the basket and FIBA is 6.25mt from the basket. 3-The fouls, NBA: the player can give 6 fouls and in FIBA is only 5 fouls. Those are the differences that I think that are the most important!.
